ABOUT CAROLINA HEAVEN

This custom-built log home is warm and inviting. 
It makes you want to settle in and never go home. The entry leads you into the large Great Room with cathedral ceilings, leather furniture, and a beautiful wood-burning stone fireplace below a spectacular authentic custom-made elk antler chandelier. Outside, the deck extends the length of the house and wraps around to reveal spectacular views of the mountains. This is clearly one of the most incredible long-range views you will find. Rocking chairs and a swing make porch-sitting a favorite past-time. This beautiful property is secluded and located on top of the mountain, approximately 3 miles off the main road. The only neighboring houses which are visible are 7 miles away on the opposite mountain, and generally can only be seen through binoculars. This house was built by the owner with a vision for incredible long-range mountain views that you will never get tired of. As quoted by owner Hayes Hyman: “It needed to be secluded and peaceful, well above the light pollution. It needed to be accessible for year-round use. And the house itself needed to be fully equipped with all the amenities and comfort of home, while being deeply immersed in all the beauty and nature offered by the North Carolina mountains.” 


And thus, it become known as “Carolina Heaven”!

THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND SURROUNDING AREA

The property is in a private community called Riverbend Highlands, and all lots are large heavily wooded lots. Many of the other houses cannot be seen from the road. The winding road up the mountain to our home is gravel. Four-wheel drive vehicles, All-wheel drive vehicles, and vehicles with higher ground clearance are recommended, but not required. Most front-wheel drive vehicles will do fine on our mountain, but we do NOT recommend rear-wheel-only vehicles, low-clearance vehicles such as sports cars and luxury cars, or any small hybrid-engine vehicles. The town of Lake Lure is located on the west side of the lake, and the town of Chimney Rock is immediately to the west of Lake Lure. It is a beautiful drive around the lake to the town where there are many fantastic activities, restaurants, and quaint mountain shops. The Town of Lake Lure, Chimney Rock and Bat Cave are all located in an area known as the Hickory Nut Gorge. The beautiful Broad River flows through the gorge and right through each of these towns to the big lake, then flows out east from the dam of the lake. Please visit our Amenities page for a list of most of the popular activities, destinations, restaurants, and shops in the area. We encourage our guests to get familiar with the area prior to their arrival. There are many endless day trips and activities, but at the end of each one of them is your retreat to the warmth and comfort of Carolina Heaven.

I built this house in 2006 to fulfill a dream 20 years in the making. For all those years prior to acquiring this property, I vacationed regularly with my family throughout all the areas of the North Carolina mountains. Each time, we looked for land to buy where we could build a vacation cabin. I had a set of criteria for what I wanted, and the lot had to be perfect, but top-of-the list was that it had to have an amazing view. I finally discovered this property during a family reunion at Lake Lure. I fell in love with the area, and then my life-long dream started to take shape. The day I bought the land, I penciled-out a sketch of the cabin on a napkin over lunch, and soon it materialized into what is now become Carolina Heaven.

Shortly after meeting, Hayes built his dream cabin and we have been spending vacations there ever since; sometimes with Hayes and his family and sometimes with our own family. We loved being in the mountains with all its beauty and adventure. When we looked for our own mountain cabin, we just never found anything that could equal the views and spaciousness of Carolina Heaven. So when Hayes offered a partnership interest in Carolina Heaven, it was an easy decision to make. Hayes created something really spectacular and we are happy to be a part of it.

Carolina Heaven Covid-19 Response

The cleanliness and sanitation of any property is paramount, especially now during a pandemic. We have implemented procedures and policies for our staff and our guests that are effective indefinitely:

  • We keep cleaning supplies, disinfectants, and hand sanitizer onsite for our guests. These supplies are located below the kitchen sink and in the bathrooms.
  • The cleaning crews will clean the house wearing masks and gloves, and the house will be thoroughly cleaned between guests. The cleaning crew will follow these rules:
  1. Use sanitary disinfectants and wipe down all points of entry, doorknobs, handrails, frequently handled areas, surfaces, and countertops in bathrooms and the kitchen.
  2. Allow normally a 24-hour buffer between guests after cleaning.
  • We ask our guests to be considerate of our property and other guests. If any individual guest in the party has any of the following issues, we ask that individual to please NOT enter the cabin:
  1. The guest tested positive for Covid-19 within 14 days of arrival, unless 2 negative tests have been performed and confirmed since the positive test.
  2. If a guest has been in close proximity to any other person who has tested positive to Covid-19 within 7 days of your arrival, unless the guest has tested negative immediately prior to arrival.
  3. If you think you have been exposed to someone who has tested positive, please get a Covid-19 test and results prior to your arrival to the cabin. If the test proves you are positive, please do not enter the cabin.
  • If you must cancel your trip due to Covid-19, we will work with you to arrange another date and apply your deposit toward that date with no penalty. If we are unable to arrange another date, we will be flexible in applying credits or refunds to the guest when Covid-19 was the reason for cancellation.
